Meshuggah: “Bleed”

07.28.10 by Patrick Leave a Comment

Here’s the first in a trio of Meshuggah vids I have lined up for this week. This is the video for “Bleed” off their latest album ObZen. Tomas Haake’s chops are as rock-solid and clean as ever, and the endurance to play the 4:3 herta pattern with his feet throughout the song is impressive on its own.

Cool Stuff on NPR

07.26.10 by Patrick 1 Comment

Yeah, I’m a nerd. When I’m not rocking out to Blind Guardian in the car, I’m listening to NPR. The other day I heard two back-to-back stories of particular interest to me and the Dominion.

The first was an interview with one of my favorite bass players, Dave Holland:
“Dave Holland: A Jazz Bassist’s Bassist”

Next, a memorial to Daniel Schorr:
“Daniel Schorr and Frank Zappa Were Friends. Really.”

Also, NPR will often play a bit of segue music leading into station identification breaks or between programs. Every once in a while—no joke—they play Mastodon‘s “Joseph Merrick”.

Marty Kane Joins DOT DOT DOT

07.25.10 by Patrick Leave a Comment

Chicago-area drummer Marty Kane has joined the rapidly up-and-coming pop band DOT DOT DOT, who just released a new EP titled II.

I know Marty from my days at The Drum Pad, and we started Berklee the same semester. He’s an incredible player, and it’s no surprise he’s doing big things.

Congrats, Marty!
