Autozamm: You Don’t Know Me
Apr 16th
Nothing groundbreaking on the drumming front here, but I’m a sucker for special effects, fight choreography, and the rock and/or roll.
This was apparently shot freeform, then manipulated with a digital video effects product called Twixtor. Cool stuff.

Phil Collins WTF
Mar 8th

All right, Phil. What’s the deal?
Three days ago, I read “Phil Collins Quitting Music Due to Health Problems”*. You apparently told FHM “I don’t really belong to that world and I don’t think anyone’s going to miss me. I’m much happier just to write myself out of the script entirely… I’m sorry that it was all so successful. I honestly didn’t mean it to happen like that. It’s hardly surprising that people grew to hate me.” You added, “It feels like a good time to stop for a while.”
Yesterday, I read “Phil Collins Is Not Retiring”. Your rep says, “He is not, has no intention of, retiring.”
WTF?
Some of us can’t handle this emotional roller coaster, Phil. I’m so confused and depressed that I’m going to go listen to “Against All Odds” and gently weep.
Look, Phil—Mr. Collins—I’m going to be frank with you. For all the amazing music you’ve created, you’ve also made some pretty shitty fluff. Hey! I say this as a fan, sir! Many are willing to overlook the copious album filler because the good stuff is so good. A listen to “Down and Out” makes me just about forget “Groovy Kind of Love”. Brand X? Holy crap, I forgive you for “You Can’t Hurry Love”.
My advice to you is to return to your roots. Reunite Genesis. Of course it’s sad that you can’t play drums anymore; you’ve been such an influence on so many. Solution: make Chester Thompson the permanent drummer. Just belt out something awesome over a kick-ass mixed-meter tune.
Prog isn’t dead, it just smells funny.
* [Let's be clear about one thing: I don't read this tripe. The story was linked on IMDb. Really. I swear.]

Drum Channel‘s philosophy of working with the best drummers in the world continues with the announcement today of an exclusive Drum Jam with the legendary Luis Conte, Jonathan Moffett and Terry Bozzio on February 24th 2011 at 6 pm PST/EST.
This DC Drum Jam rebroadcast follows the tried and tested drum jam format of letting the drummers perform, interpret, improvise the most astounding rhythmic themes, letting the music evolve naturally. Jamming by its very nature allows the drummers to experiment and play off each other and you’ll see the most amazing chops, fills and playing during this half hour long exclusive session.
Jonathan Moffett got the nickname ’Sugarfoot’ because of his exceptional bass drum technique. He has worked with Michael and Janet Jackson, as well as the entire Jackson family band. Other credits include George Michael, Elton John, Lionel Riche and he is truly a drummer to the stars.
Grammy award winning Luis Conte is a master percussionist renowned for his artistry and virtuoso displays. Esperanza Spalding Wins a Grammy
Feb 14th

Subtitle: Esperanza Spalding Once Slummed it with the Likes of Me
Congrats to Esperanza Spalding, the virtuoso jazz bassist/vocalist extraordinaire who won the Grammy for Best New Artist last night. Not only is it amazing that an actual talented musician won this award (go figure!), but she beat the presumable shoo-in Justin Bieber. (And well done, Bieberites, channeling all your negative energy through your vapid, tween hive mind and trying to cast a pall over the event.)
Esperanza and I played a couple forgettable, low-profile recitals together at Berklee. Who would have guessed back then that she would go on to be world-famous, and that I would be… administering this website? Uh, everyone, actually. We all knew she was destined for greatness.
Congratulations, Esperanza!
